Where Once there was a Mountain

April 19th, 2013

During my explorations and farm set up I have been excavating away the hill next to my house in order to expand – The site will eventually have my stepped pyramid on it.

It is not very interesting though it does yield coal and the odd bit of iron ore.

I put the painting on the wall behind which there is more mountains/hill – this was to see what would happen with a big expanse for the painting to grow on. The first couple of painting were freaky skeleton ones which I didn’t feel up to having on the wall!

Building Plans for the Long Term

April 18th, 2013

I am planning on building a giant stepped pyramid reaching up all the way to the top of the world in Minecraft – not decided on the exact style and dimensions yet and am just going to continue to expand my current house. I do know it is going to be more in the inca/mesoamerican style rather than Egyptian.

I also want to make Earth works out of glow stone and things like that – glow stone is not in the Mincraft world as such but in a little side dimension that you get too via it, if you build a portal. My husband has made it into the Nether as it is called but I have not.

Then I want to build a theme park in the desert (if I ever find it and assuming my world has one!). This will have a roller coaster and water slide and house of horrors etc…

Floating islands – I want to ring them in fire and ice and stuff like that – not sure if it is possible but we shall see!

Glass bubbles in the sky – possibly connected to the floating islands.

An under water city again in glass domes.

A monster factory – Minecraft is designed so that monsters appear near you but not near enough that it is apparent that they ‘spawn’ near to you. They need darkness and you can do funky things using what are essential bugs in the game to generate and trap/kill monsters which is useful for a variety of reasons.

I would also like to build a railway network.

Growing Sugar Cain

April 17th, 2013

After building a dirt land bridge over to the island infront of my house in Mincraft I went on a little explore and got completely and utterly lost and had a mini adventure but more on that later! What I found in the island arc was some sugar cain plants – these are pale green and three blocks high – so I bashed them all down and collected them. When I finally found my home again I planted them along the river bank/shoreline.

Here they have been growing nicely and I have been harvesting the top two blocks off of each in the hope of later making paper for a map (I lost my one at the beginning when I was blown up by the creeper). Once I have a map I will feel happier about going on little explores and tunnelling to far away places etc… and the sugar is for cake baking!

The Arboretum

April 16th, 2013

I decided to make an arboretum so I dug a huge pit and expanded out onto the water and had to build a dam and stuff. I used a spade and harvested/mined lots of sand which I popped in the furnace, this turns it into glass which I wanted for the ceiling. I built the sides up with stone and put a walk way round with stairs down to the floor and made my first sign – writing on the signs is a right pain on the xbox version – no idea if it is easier in the PC version. I couldn’t spell Arboretum though so just put Trees.

I put torches all around to make sure the tree had light to grow and the area wouldn’t be a monster spawner! I then planted a sapling and in the corners planted some flowers and mushrooms to see if they could be cultivated.

The Bedroom of Wool

April 15th, 2013

In my third week of Minecraft I managed to dye wool red and yellow and collect black, dark grey, white and light grey which I used to carpet the bedroom, and make paintings for the wall.

Bedroom carpeted and with paintings

I made the red and yellow dyes from the flowers and placed it on the sheep which I then sheared.

Eventually the whole room will be red to match the bed I finally made too – that took wool as well. The paintings are a bit annoying as you can’t pick which ones you want (remember I am not in creative!). I’ve got a sunset and a creeper climbing over a balcony so far!

It turns out there are 26 different images on the paintings so being the sort of person I am I now want to collect them all!

I also want to make all the different dies and carpet my house!

Mysterious Disappearing Sheep

April 14th, 2013

Yep even with the wolf in the walls extracted my sheep are disappearing and worse than that both they and the pigs seem to be able to jump over the fences at random. First I thought it was my stone pillars so I moved them or raised them all to the ceiling incase they were jumping onto them.

But I saw one sheep jump straight out – I had accidently hit it with shearers instead of shearing it but still! They also seem to be able to walk out of the pens a fair way – they sort of ooze out of the fences but then boing back.

So I am now doubling up my fences, as in putting on bit on top of another – not sure what to do about the gates though, will they still be able to jump out of them?

Minecraft Beetle Juice

My hubby found this video for me – I love the film Beetle Juice and well just the amount of effort they must have gone into producing this set up in Minecraft is amazing! Enjoy.

Sheep Wool Bug

April 12th, 2013

So I have been desperately trying to make wool carpets and managed to get dye for my sheep by picking flowers (red and yellow) and what have you. The the issue – there is a bug in the XBox version which stops it growing back.

So for weeks I have been hunting wild sheep to shear and thinking I was going to have to dye individual bits of wool etc… but they have fixed it! At last yeah!

And boy does the wool grow back quickly. Unfortunately all my sheep mysteriously disappeared from their underground barn – I think it had something to do with the wolf I found trapped in the wall :/ Not sure how but I penned it in as I need more bones to tame it and went off and got new sheep which all seem to be fine.

Week Two of Minecraft

April 11th, 2013

Again apologies to those who read Snell-Pym as this is mostly a re-post.

I built a bedroom and found iron ore in the process so could make shears and go and shear sheep to make myself a bed 🙂 I didn’t like the idea of killing the sheep just for their wool 🙁

Bedroom!

Then I dug myself a garden with a fence and gate – because of where the stairs are it acts as a one way valve for animals – if I leave the gate open at the top then animals wonder in, jump over the fence and then can’t get back out! This was not genius just an accident but a fun one none the less!

But I quickly ended up with too many animals so had to expand – I dug an underground barn for them 🙂

I also mined sand and popped it in the furnace to produce glass blocks to use as windows.

I am hoping to collect stuff to make dye for the sheep and I want to put some sort of system in place to divid the sheep, cows, pigs and ducks (apparently they are chickens but they are lodged in my head as ducks!).

I have also been hunting cows and got enough leather to make a full set of leather armour.

And Alaric my husband didn’t realise you could put torches on the fences 🙂 So I taught him something 🙂

Minecraft Lego

April 10th, 2013

I so want this!!!

As a little girl one of my favourite things was Lego – I started with fabiland with lots of animals and progressed to building huge great big houses and landscapes. To a certain extent Minecraft is a digital lego for me but with missions and monsters that are not you’re younger brother on a demolition quest. When we went to lego land in the autumn I took well over a thousand pictures and spent far too much in the shop – yes I am a lego freak!

Minecraft + lego =

It is currently out of my price range though 🙁 and too me they haven’t event scraped the surface of minecraft/lego cross over potential! Maybe I need to go and design something for them?
